I just saw the new Madden 2003 vids. Looks like the programmers have heard our cries of FOUL when it comes to dealing with deep passes. The swat drill looks to be very interesting; we will see how that shakes out.
After watching the swat vid for 20 minutes or so I came to the conclusion that speed not SIZE or AWARENESS will be critical in stopping pass plays. Some people might say the CPU targets were not moving, that's right in Madden you play the man not the ball. Having said that let me be the first to bring up the issue of DB Subbing.
I can already envision the Charles Woodsons, Champ Baileys or any CB at FS as long as he has Warp Speed totally dominating the opposing teams deep passing game. I am not saying this is a bad thing, because big WRs have dominated for so long, but it will bring some interesting scenarios into play. For instance, why not bring the house on every play? The fear of being blistered deep is no longer there because of this X factor.
EA claims that the run game has been bumped up a notch or two. Woohoo, I use to love running the wishbone with the Steelers back in the day it could not be stopped. Okay so the inside running is back, the vids seen to bare this fact out, but blitzing will kill this remember bring the house on every play. Now its 3rd and 13, you call a underneath play to the TE because you know the blitz is cominghut.hut.hut hike you feel the blitz and rush the pass, I step in front with Jason Gildon (fast LB) and high step into the end zone with a 12 yard INT for TD!
The best ballers will modify their game plans to deal with the new features they always do. The new play editor should be fun but I would not get into the habit of relying on created plays because unless there is a rule change created plays will not be allowed at MWS gigs. With all of these online leagues starting up the Madden community should be better than ever until some #%$& learns how to upload a worn into our systems (see SEGA NET).
So where I am going with all of this? The DB Subbing could have a trickle down effect just like cpu bombing to big WRs opened up the running game. I play the game a lot but I dont study the game at the quantum level like some ballers (U Know Who You Are). There will be glitches, remember the Big Flip, Pooch Kick, FG & Punt Block, Press Start, No Huddle and QB Run On Screens(Did You Know About That One? If Not Keep Your Eyes Open At The Nats) were not glitches until a lot of people knew about them. Next month when the game is released get into the LAB tell wifey and the kids to chill, and dont show your face until your online league starts up.
